The correct storage location is important:

Long-term storage in poor conditions can cause deep discharge, which can irreversibly damage the battery. Therefore, special attention must be paid to the storage location and temperature of the battery.

Car or motorcycle batteries can remain in the car, even when parked for long periods of time, if the garage has the right battery storage conditions. Proper temperature is important in choosing a storage location. Car batteries like to stay cool and dry. The optimal storage temperature for car batteries is 15°C per year.

While the electrochemical processes in a battery are slow at very low temperatures, at high temperatures all processes happen faster. This means that corrosion and sulfation can also occur more quickly, drastically shortening the battery’s lifespan. Excessive storage temperatures must therefore be avoided.

The charge level can also be affected if the humidity of the air condenses on the battery and causes a small leakage current between the positive and negative terminals, causing a faster discharge.

Storage in the cellar is possible in principle, but the room must be dry. The best solution is to have a room in the house where there is dry air and a constant temperature even in winter.
